The British School of Barcelona

The British School of Barcelona (BSB) is a private, coeducational British international day school founded in 1958 and part of the Cognita group since 2007. It operates across multiple campuses in and around Barcelona - including BSB City, BSB Castelldefels, BSB Nexus (pre-university) and BSB Sitges - serving nearly 2,000 students aged 2 to 18. The school follows the National Curriculum of England and Wales through IGCSEs, then offers two university-entry routes at sixth form: A Levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

BSB's strongest verified credential is its inspection record. In its October 2024 British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspection it was graded 'Outstanding in Every Category', retaining the same judgement it first achieved in 2021, and the school describes itself as the only school in Barcelona to hold this distinction. The school is also accredited by NABSS (the National Association of British Schools in Spain) and is an authorised IB World School and Cambridge/Pearson examination centre.

Academic outcomes in 2024 were strong across both pathways. A Levels recorded a 100% pass rate with 46% of grades at A*-A, while the IB Diploma cohort posted a 100% pass rate and an average of 34.2 points - well above the global average of around 30 - with 19.4% of students scoring 40 or more and one student achieving the maximum 45 points. At GCSE, 19% of grades were awarded at grade 9 and 60% of Maths and English Language grades fell in the 7-9 band.

Instruction is primarily in English, with Spanish (and Catalan in the local context) taught alongside, and the school provides English-language support for students still developing fluency. Fees for 2026-2027 range from roughly EUR 6,100 at the earliest years up to about EUR 20,930 in the senior years, plus a one-off non-refundable matriculation fee of EUR 3,400. BSB is a day school and does not offer boarding.
