Explained
What are A-Levels?
A-Levels (Advanced Levels) are UK subject-specific qualifications taken at ages 16-18, where students typically study just three or four subjects in depth over two years, assessed mainly by final exams. They are the dominant route into UK universities and reward depth and specialisation.
Graded A* down to E. A clear-direction student (e.g. set on engineering) can take Maths + Further Maths + Physics at full depth — something the IB's breadth requirement structurally prevents.
Best suited to students with a settled subject direction, especially UK-bound ones, and those who perform well under concentrated final-exam pressure rather than continuous coursework.
