What is the IB Diploma?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma is a two-year, globally-recognised secondary qualification for ages 16-19 in which students take six subjects across required groups plus a 'core' of Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay, and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service). It is known for breadth, a mandatory research essay, and acceptance in 150+ countries.

Scored out of 45 points (three Higher Level + three Standard Level subjects, plus up to 3 core points). Oxbridge offers are typically 40-42 with 7,7,6 at Higher Level.

Its strength is breadth and portability — ideal for students keeping options open across the US, UK, and Asia, or who may relocate. The trade-off is that it prevents the narrow specialisation A-Levels allow (you must take a second language, a humanity, a science, and maths).
