BrightKey's Assessment
Harrow International School Bangkok opened in 1998 as the first Harrow School established in Asia, licensed from Harrow School in London (founded 1572). In 2003 the school moved to a purpose-built 35-acre campus in the Don Mueang district and introduced its House System and boarding provision.
The school delivers the British national curriculum end-to-end, from an Early Years Centre (from 18 months) through IGCSE and A-Levels in Sixth Form (to age 18). Per its March 2023 BSO inspection, the school had 1,713 pupils on roll. It is one of relatively few international schools in the region with substantial boarding — a defining feature — operating a boarding village with multiple houses (The Knoll, West Acre, Bradbys, The Grove) and drawing boarders from across Asia.
Harrow Bangkok is commercially operated as an overseas franchise by the private AISL Group under license from Harrow School London (AISL also runs Harrow Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai). It holds CIS accreditation (2006), full FOBISIA membership, ISAT membership and HMC affiliation. Its most load-bearing external validation is the British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspection of 13–16 March 2023, carried out by Education Development Trust inspectors and quality-assured by Ofsted.
That BSO report's verbatim overall judgement: 'Harrow International School Bangkok is an outstanding school and provides an outstanding quality of education for pupils from 18 months to 18 years.' Attainment and progress in English, mathematics and science were rated outstanding across all phases; A-Level results 'outstanding,' with almost all pupils achieving A*–A, and 65% of IGCSE entries at A*–A. These figures are inspection-verified for 2023 but are not a substitute for current-year, independently confirmed results.
Why These Ratings?
Inspection & AccreditationS — Exceptional
Published BSO 'Outstanding' (Grade 1) inspection, March 2023, by Education Development Trust and Ofsted-quality-assured — a genuine verbatim Outstanding-equivalent band. Although Thailand has no public inspectorate, the British BSO route gives a real published band, so the cap-at-A default does not apply → S. Plus CIS accreditation and FOBISIA/HMC membership.
Strengths & Trade-offs
Strengths
- Published BSO 'Outstanding' (Grade 1) rating, March 2023 — Ofsted-quality-assured, verbatim band, the rare Outstanding-equivalent that earns top inspection tier
- The original Harrow international school (1998) with the strongest brand heritage of any Harrow Asia campus
- Genuine, well-developed boarding provision (boarding village, multiple houses) — uncommon in Bangkok
- Strong inspection-verified academics: outstanding English/maths/science attainment, A*–A-heavy A-level and IGCSE outcomes (2023)
- Documented EAL support: the BSO report records 1,590 EAL pupils receiving provision and making strong progress
- Multiple recognised accreditations/memberships: CIS, FOBISIA (full), ISAT, HMC
Trade-offs
- Premium fees: tuition runs up to THB ~1.04M/year, with boarding adding THB 445,600–557,200 — among the most expensive options in Bangkok
- For-profit ownership: operated commercially by AISL Group under franchise license, not an independent non-profit foundation
- Not IB: families wanting the IB Diploma must look elsewhere — the offering is strictly British IGCSE/A-Level
- Latest published BSO inspection is 2023; no newer independently published rating confirmed
- Academic results are inspection/school-reported, not annually re-verified by an external body
