BrightKey's Assessment
Shenzhen College of International Education (深圳国际交流书院, SCIE) opened in August 2003 as the first full-time Chinese international college accredited by Cambridge. Crucially for internationally-mobile families, it is a Shenzhen-regulated private school — NOT a foreign-passport 外籍人员子女学校 — so it admits mainland Chinese nationals alongside others, by competitive examination. This is the opposite of the foreign-passport schools and central to who can apply.
The academic model is a four-year Cambridge pathway (G1, G2, A1, A2) covering IGCSE then GCE A-Level, taught in English under 'The English Policy'. AP courses were added from the 2025 academic year, and the school lists OxfordAQA among its authorizations. It is WASC 'Fully Accredited'. The official age range is 15–19; it is secondary/sixth-form only, with no primary or early years.
SCIE's signature is its UK university admissions record. School-reported cumulative totals across ~4,381 graduates since founding include 2,257 UK admissions — among them Oxford 147 and Cambridge 229, plus Imperial, LSE and UCL — alongside 1,438 US, 254 Hong Kong and 261 Canada admissions. The Telegraph (Oct 2024), using 2023 Oxbridge data, independently ranked SCIE No.1 in China and No.3 globally outside the UK. All school-published placement counts carry a 'school-reported, unverified' flag; the Telegraph ranking is independently attributed.
Tuition is RMB 273,000/year (RMB 290,000 for the Music Academy) for 2025–26, with boarding from RMB 16,800–19,800/year. China has no graded national inspectorate, so the tier reflects accreditation + curriculum depth — capped at A.
Why These Ratings?
Inspection & AccreditationA — Excellent
China has no graded national inspectorate. SCIE demonstrates quality through Cambridge International authorization (IGCSE + A-Level), WASC 'Fully Accredited' status, and a 20-year Cambridge track record. Its independently-attributed Telegraph Oxbridge ranking is a strong external signal, but the accreditation/inspection axis is capped at A in this market — no S-tier route exists without a graded inspectorate.
