Application strategy
UIUC offers Early Action with a November 1 deadline and Regular Decision closing January 5. The university is test-optional through the 2025-26 cycle, though admitted students who submit scores typically fall in the SAT 1310-1490 or ACT 26-32 range. Average admitted GPA sits between 3.7 and 3.9 on a 4.0 scale. Applications go through the Common App with UIUC-specific supplemental essays that ask about your intended major and why UIUC specifically. Computer Science is by far the most selective major with an effective admit rate below 10%, so listing a second-choice major is strongly recommended. International applicants need TOEFL 100+ or IELTS 7.0+ minimum. F-1 visa holders benefit from 12 months of OPT after graduation, extendable to 36 months total for STEM-designated programs which includes CS, Engineering, and most science majors.
