Application strategy
UCLA uses the UC Application (not Common App), open August through November 30 with no early decision or early action options. Applicants must complete four Personal Insight Questions (PIQs) of 350 words each, choosing from eight prompts that emphasize leadership, creativity, and community contribution. SAT/ACT scores are not required or considered (test-blind policy since 2021). Admitted students typically hold weighted GPAs of 3.7-3.9 (4.0+ weighted is common) with completion of all A-G subject requirements including 4 years of English, 3 years of math, and 2 years of lab science. International applicants need TOEFL 100+ or IELTS 7.0+ minimum. F-1 visa holders qualify for 12 months OPT (36 months for STEM). Some majors like Computer Science and Nursing use supplemental review or lottery systems due to extreme demand. Admission rate hovers around 9 percent overall.
