Application strategy
Applications are made through UCAS with a January 25 deadline for equal consideration. International Baccalaureate requirements range from 32 to 36 points depending on programme, while A-Level offers typically span AAB to A*A*A for the most competitive courses. English language requirements are IELTS 6.5 overall with no component below 6.0 for most programmes, rising to 7.0 for medicine and law. No SAT or ACT scores are required or considered. Electronics and Computer Science is particularly selective, often requiring A*AA at A-Level or 36 IB points with 6 in Higher Level Mathematics. Southampton does not interview for most programmes except medicine and music performance. The Graduate Route visa allows two years of post-study work in the UK, though this is expected to reduce to 18 months from January 2027. Early application is advisable for accommodation guarantees, and applicants should reference specific research groups or facilities in personal statements to demonstrate genuine interest.
