Application strategy
Michigan offers Early Action (non-binding) with a November 1 deadline and Regular Decision with a February 1 deadline. The university is test-optional through the 2025-26 cycle, though admitted students who submit scores average SAT 1390-1530 or ACT 31-34. The average admitted GPA is 3.9 on a 4.0 scale. Applications use the Common App supplemented by Michigan-specific essays (the Why Michigan essay is critical and should demonstrate genuine fit with specific programs, faculty, or opportunities). International applicants need TOEFL 100+ or IELTS 7.0 and are eligible for F-1 OPT providing 12-36 months of post-graduation work authorization. Ross School of Business and the College of Engineering are significantly more selective with separate application processes typically in sophomore year.
