Campus and city
The 250-acre Edgbaston campus functions as a self-contained university village set in leafy South Birmingham, just 15 minutes by bus from the vibrant city centre. The campus features the Grade II-listed Aston Webb building, a 25-metre swimming pool, extensive playing fields, and the recently completed GBP 60M library. With 38,000 students and 230+ societies ranging from Quidditch to investment banking, the Guild of Students has been rated the number one student union in the UK multiple times. Edgbaston Cricket Ground sits adjacent to campus, lending a unique sporting atmosphere during international test matches. Birmingham's central location means London Euston is 1 hour 15 minutes by train and Manchester Piccadilly the same, giving students weekend access to two additional major cities. The surrounding area is rich in cultural heritage including Cadbury World in nearby Bournville, Tolkien's childhood haunts in Moseley and Edgbaston (which inspired the Shire), and Aston Villa's Villa Park stadium a short bus ride away. The city itself offers the Bullring and Grand Central shopping, a thriving independent food scene in Digbeth, and the Jewellery Quarter's creative hub.
