Why study in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi Arabia's standout in international higher education is KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) — a graduate-only, English-medium research university on the Red Sea with one of the world's largest university endowments (~$20B), where every admitted student receives a full fellowship covering tuition, housing and a stipend. It is genuinely world-class in water/desalination, energy, catalysis and marine science, and one of the most international universities anywhere (~80% non-Saudi). The trade-offs are specific: KAUST is graduate-only (no undergraduates), STEM-only (no humanities), and sits in a remote purpose-built enclave, while Saudi Arabia's broader social context — though the KAUST campus is an unusually liberal co-ed enclave — deters some applicants. Vision 2030 is rapidly building the country's research and tech sector. Best for funded master's/PhD STEM researchers seeking elite, debt-free research; not an option for undergraduates or non-science fields.
